FORT HALL — It was a night to remember for Rockland’s Savanah Farr.

But then again, isn’t every night one to remember for the senior who serves up doubledoubles like it’s no big deal?

Farr had 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Bulldogs buried the Sho-Ban Chiefs 62-31 Tuesday night at Sho-Ban High School.

“She’s tough to guard,” said Rockland head coach Vern Nelson. “It’s hard to shut her down, and a lot of teams have tried.”

The Chiefs made a valiant attempt to slow Farr, and for one quarter, they succeeded. Farr had six points in the opening period before breaking free in the second, where she contributed eight points to a 12-0 Rockland run.

“I think once (Farr) got going, then the rest of the team got going,” said Sho-Ban head coach Donn Holston. “In the first quarter she had some trouble getting her shot off, but after that she caught fire.”

Sho-Ban jumped on Rockland early to nab a 4-2 lead soon following the tipoff with Shayla Johnson and Jawana Graves hitting back-toback buckets. But Farr hit two foul shots, and Tiffani Lee buried a 3-pointer to begin the rout.

Though Rockland stumbled out of the gate, the Bulldogs were able to climb back on the horse. And once they did, they were hard to bring back down.

“We didn’t shoot very well to start,” Nelson said. “We just picked up a little bit of the intensity on offense. Savannah really got hot and got rolling.”

After Rockland’s run, Sho-Ban’s Johnson hit two 2-pointers in a row to bring the Chiefs to within 14. But that was the closest Sho-Ban would get. Farr had 14 of her points in that period, guiding the Bulldogs to a 23-point second quarter that put the Chiefs on the edge.

And with 10 team assists on the night (Stefani McClanahan with five), it was a collective effort to find the open looks.

“We’ve got kids that are very shareful with the basketball,” Nelson said. “They see (Farr’s) open, they’re going to get her the ball. … They’re going to get the ball to their teammates too when they’re open.”

Rockland’s Mesa Farr was second on the Bulldogs’ squad with eight points and seven boards. Savanah Farr and Lee each had four steals, helping Rockland to 10 total. “(Farr) just works so hard out here,” Nelson said. “She has a nose for the basketball. She’s good on the boards.”

Rockland (16-2, 10-0 1A D2) hosts Clarke County Saturday. Sho-Ban hosts Leadore Friday.
